When people hear the name Age Concern Sandwich, they sometimes think they already know what we are.

They picture somewhere quiet. Somewhere formal. Somewhere you only go if you “need help” or have reached a certain stage in life.

But spend a little time here, and you will quickly realise that is only a very small part of the story.

Age Concern Sandwich is a friendly, lively and welcoming place at the heart of the community. It is somewhere to meet people, enjoy good food, try something new, have a laugh, and feel part of something. For many of our visitors, it is simply a great place to spend time.

Our regulars come for all sorts of reasons. Some pop in for coffee and a catch-up. Some come for lunch with friends. Others join in with activities, exercise classes, talks, groups and events. Some enjoy a quiet half hour with a snack, while others are very happy to settle in for a cheeky glass of wine or beer and a good chat.

And why not?

Life does not suddenly become less fun because you have passed 50, 60, 70 or beyond. In fact, many people find themselves with a little more time to enjoy the things they did not always have time for before — friendships, hobbies, volunteering, good food, conversation and new experiences.

That is where we come in.

During the summer, our courtyard garden becomes one of our favourite spaces. With plenty of places to sit, and a relaxed atmosphere, it's a lovely spot to enjoy lunch, a drink, or just a bit of time out. It's the kind of place where conversations start easily, familiar faces appear, and the day feels that little bit brighter.

Of course, support is still an important part of what we do. We are here for people when they need advice, reassurance, practical help, companionship or a friendly face. That will always matter. But Age Concern Sandwich is not only about support in difficult times; it is also about making everyday life better, more connected and more enjoyable.

We know that the name carries history, and we are proud of that history. Age Concern Sandwich has been part of the community for many years, helping and bringing people together. But today, we are also a modern, active, sociable place for people who want to get out, meet others and enjoy themselves.

So, if you have ever thought, “That place isn’t for me,” we would gently suggest popping in and seeing for yourself.

You may come in for a coffee and leave having booked lunch. You may come for lunch and discover an activity you fancy trying. You may bump into someone you know, or meet someone completely new. You may simply find a relaxed, friendly place where you feel comfortable from the moment you walk through the door.
