Celebrating 800 years of Mayors in Sandwich - 05 May 2026

Well… Sandwich, you really did yourself proud on Saturday! What an absolutely wonderful day celebrating 800 Years of Mayors – and we’re still smiling about it.

The town was buzzing with community spirit, and the pageant was something truly special. Around 400 participants took part (we lost count after a while… there were so many!) representing an amazing mix of local groups – quite possibly the biggest the town has ever seen.

We were delighted to be part of the procession here at Age Concern Sandwich.  It was so lovely to see so many friendly faces lining the streets, waving, cheering, and making us feel very much part of something special.

A huge thank you to our amazing staff and volunteers who joined in and proudly carried our banners – you were brilliant (and gave us all a very good excuse to show off a little!).

And can we just take a moment to say… thank you to whoever arranged the sunshine! We were incredibly grateful – it made the whole day even more enjoyable (and saved us from chasing runaway hats and umbrellas!).

Saturday really was a day to remember – a true celebration of everything that makes Sandwich such a fantastic place to be.
