At The Sunflower Centre, we’re always looking for creative ways to bring people together, learn new skills, and make a positive difference — and our latest project certainly ticks all those boxes!
Staff and clients have recently started work on an exciting recycling project that will transform empty crisp packets into a handmade sleeping bag. Yes, really!
While most of us would normally throw crisp packets straight into the bin, the shiny foil lining inside them can actually help reflect heat and provide warmth. By carefully cleaning, flattening, and joining the packets together, they can be turned into insulated material that could help someone keep warm.
The project is not only a fantastic recycling idea, but also a wonderful group activity that encourages teamwork, creativity, conversation, and problem-solving — with plenty of laughs along the way too. It’s amazing what can happen when a group of people come together with a big idea and a mountain of crisp packets!
Of course, a project like this needs lots and lots of supplies… and that’s where we’re hoping the community can help.
We are currently collecting empty 32.5g crisp packets and would be hugely grateful for any donations. Packets can be dropped off at reception at Age Concern Sandwich.
So before you throw away your next packet of crisps, think again — your snack could help make a real difference!
Keep an eye on our social media pages for updates as the project progresses. We can’t wait to share how it all comes together!
